Lent Choice: Royal HillTop

All my Catholic friends looking for a good Fish and Chips on Friday I recommend The Royal Hilltop. Located in Aurora at the corner of Hampden and Tower (see web page). It is a little British style pub. They have a great selection of British and Irish Draft beers as well as a number of single malt scotches. The fish and chips are very good.

St. Patrick’s Day they have a full day of events scheduled including step dancers, pipers, drummers and conclude with an Irish Band.

Boulder Chinese

Boulder

We visited a couple of our favorite Boulder restaurants this past weekend, Golden Lotus and May Wa. It was Friday night and the contrast was striking.

Golden Lotus was very busy with dine-in, take-out and delivery. This is very understandable. Golden Lotus is one of the best Chinese Restaurants in all Colorado. There is no question that you are in a Chinese Restaurant when at Golden Lotus. The place very well decorated, the service is always polite and the food is good authentic American Chinese. While dining you can enjoy the aroma of Chinese cuisine. They also maintain one of the cleanest restaurants that I visit.

MayWa was a bit slow. The owner indicated that since the Movie Theatre was replaced by Ace Hardware that business has been down a bit. That is to bad because MayWa is a great restaurant. Long-time owners and operators know how to deliver and provide good Asian Cuisine. Once again they keep a clean restaurant. Dinning area is very comfortable a great place for a nice lunch or a casual dinner. CU is just across the street so not a bad place for a pre-game, or pre-show meal. I strongly recommend that Bouldernites reacquaint themselves to MayWa.

Moongate Asian Grill

Moongate is a chain restaurant in the making. This is not a bad thing. The concept is so popular that the demand deserves more locations. Plus ownership is staying in the family so the quality has not slipped as each new location comes on board.

The Original location at 745 Quebec St has been one of the most positively reviewed restaurants in all of Denver (see web page for full reviews). For good reason this cute little Asian fusion restaurant truly has some of the most unique dishes around. My wife and I frequent this restaurant many times a year. It is one of our favorite places to take guest that want to try the best Asian Food Denver.

Moongate now has two new locations in Boulder and Lafayette.

Denver: 745 Quebec St. 303 329 2921
Boulder: 1628 Pearl St. 720 406 8888
Lafayette: 199 W S. Boulder Rd. 303 665 3608

Empress Seafood

Do you want an authentic Chinese meal in Denver. Try the Empress.
This is a Chinese resturant for Chinese people. It is one of the most popular
places for Chinese weddings. Those weddings they do not host they often cator.
Something to concider for your next big event.
The food is often regarded as the best "real Chinese"
in town. The one must have item is the West Lake Soup. If you have never had
West Lake it is worth the trip for this one item alone. Rumor has it people
visiting from China specifically request going to the Empress for their West
Lake; it is that good and that famous.
On Weekends this is the spot for Dimsum. It seams as though
their is an endless parade of petite little Chinese women marching around
the large restaurant with thier Dimsum trays. All filled with exotic and sometime
scarry items - like chicken feet, and all kinds of tripes. But they also have
many items that the more American pallete can enjoy.
We all can not go to China or San Fransico's China Town for
the Chinese New Year, but we all can go to the Empress in Denver and that
is about as close as you can get while in the Mile High City to China.
